Replay incoming calls

As the first VHF ever, the SAILOR RT5022 can store and replay incoming calls. The bridge being a busy and sometimes noisy place, this facility increases the safety at sea as a missed message just can be heard again.

Two displays, separate menus

The display and menus have been separated into two with the main VHF functions shown in a 7-segment display and the DSC functions and settings shown in a graphic LCD display. The graphic display can reset to sleep mode when not used. In this way the night vision is not disturbed. The 7-segment display is clearly readable at a distance and from even very wide angles. Both displays have text and indicators lit in red, which does not disturb the night vision.

The SAILOR RT5022 builds on the SAILOR brand’s strong reputation as a reliable and powerful VHF designed for the harsh environment at sea. More than 50 years of experience and research has lead to the design of the new SAILOR RT5022, which has built-in DSC (Digital Selective Calling) Class A.

Thrane & Thrane’s superior technology combined with intensive research among users has lead to the launch of a number of revolutionary features as well as a new design that will ease the use of the VHF onboard vessels.

Replay feature and new displays
The SAILOR RT5022 comes with a new replay feature that allows the operator to repeat an incoming message in case the operator did not understand the message in the first instance. In situations where safety may be at stake, the replay function can be very helpful.

In day-to-day operations, the user requires that the VHF radio is easy to operate. In order to obtain this, the SAILOR RT5022 has been simplified and the functionalities most often used are operated by large tactile buttons and knobs and a large separate display. The large display makes it easier for the operator to identify the settings, even from wide angels and at distance.

The DSC functions and functions that are not used on a daily basis have been separated and are shown in a graphical LCD display. This helps the user to remain the overview of the SAILOR RT5022, also in hasty situations where the control of the communication is essential. All text in the display is in red to reduce the disturbance to the night vision on the bridge. The SAILOR RT5022 also introduces a sleep mode function that further reduces light on the bridge and thereby improves the night vision. The sleep mode function blacks out the graphical display when not activated. It is easily activated again by simply pressing on a button.

To reduce the reflection from external light (e.g. sunlight) in the displays, a special marine AR (Anti-Reflection) filter has been implemented.

    The SAILOR RT5022 offers all the features that can be expected by a top of line VHF such as Dual Watch, flexible scanning, 25 to 1 W switch button, DSC address book etc. Installation of the SAILOR RT5022 is very flexible and control units are waterproofed (to IP66) for exposed installations such as bridge wings.

    As a final feature, the SAILOR RT5022 is designed with a new and innovative menu structure. With inspiration from regular mobile phones, the menus contain quick selection functions that make it considerably easier to operate the system.
