Torqeedo Travel 503 / 1003 Electric Outboard Motor Which Travel motor for which boat? The Travel 503 and 1003 models are both suitable for inflatables, small boats and sail boats. We recommend the Travel 503 for sail boats up to a weight of 750 kg, and the Travel 1003 up to a weight of 1.5 tons.
Both models consume the same level of energy at the same speed.
The stronger Travel 1003 has 30% higher battery capacity and therefore superior range.
Both models are available in long and short shaft versions.
Battery charge time: The battery recharge time from empty to full ranges between some 8 hours (Travel 503) and 10 hours (Travel 1003).
- Integrated GPS and information system: provides precise real-time information on battery charge status, remaining range at current speed, speed over ground and power consumption (GPS receiver located in the battery, information display located in the tiller).
- Improved mechanical stability, ruggedness and suitability for salt water use.
- 20% higher power and approx. 10% higher efficiency, noiseless design.
- Corrosion-free design, does not require a sacrificial anode
- Auto-kickup feature in case of grounding
- 30% higher battery capacity (Travel 1003 model)
- All models can be solar-charged during operation.
- Audible alarm warns when battery charge status reaches 30%
- Fully waterproof design, IP 67 (all components can be submersed for 1 hour at 1 m below surface without any harm
Travel 1003
with integrated battery (29.6 V / 10 Ah) Inflatable, dinghy, sailboat up to 750 kg.
| Speed in knots | Range in nm | Run time in hours | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slow speed | 1.5 - 2.0 | 9.0 - 12.0 | 6:00 |
| Half throttle | 2.5 - 3.0 | 5.0 - 6.0 | 2:00 |
| Full throttle | 3.6 - 4.0 | 5.0 - 6.0 | 0:40 |
The new generation of Torqeedo Travel outboarders combine integrated lithium batteries with unrivaled high efficiency. Because of this combination the electric motors offer lots of power and good range at small size and weight.
The new models Travel 503 and 1003 possess more power than their predecessors, are tougher and entirely watertight (IP67). In addition, the model 1003 offers a battery with 30% more capacity, as well as an even higher level of efficiency. At slow speed the range of a Torqeedo Travel motor exceeds 10 nautical miles. The energy consumed equals that of 33 grams of gasoline (Travel 1003) and 26 grams for the Travel 503.
A display located inside the tiller shows precise information about the remaining range as well as current speed, power consumption and state of charge. Speed and range information is calculated with the help of the integrated GPS. If the remaining charge of the battery drops below 30% an acoustic warning is triggered.
The lithium-manganese batteries used by Torqeedo signify a huge leap in performance for boat engines compared to conventional battery systems . They stand out due to a high specific energy density, meaning that a great amount of energy can be stored per kilogram of battery weight. In comparison to conventional battery systems they are noticeably easier to operate at lower weight.
Even more visionary is the alternative utilization of foldable solar modules for operation of the Torqeedo Travel: The flexible solar cells aren't only convenient to use, the CIGS- technology (copper indium gallium diselenide) is currently the application with the highest rate of efficiency amongst thin-film solar technologies. In combination with a Torqeedo Travel you get one of the lightest and smallest solar-powered drives in the world: the total weight of motor and module adds up to about 14 kg, the solar panel has a surface area of about 1 square meter. The potent combination of powerful Torqeedo electric motors and flexible solar modules is one of the most efficient and intelligent drive technologies currently on the market. The absorbed sun energy is stored in the weatherproof and UV- resistant modules, so that the small solar power plants can deliver electricity even when the sky is cloudy or dull.
All in all, these qualities make the Torqeedo Travel the ideal motor for inflatable dinghies, ultra-small boats, dinghies, yawls, dragon boats or other day sailers up to a weight of 750 kg (Travel 503) or 1.5 t (Travel 1003).
Lithium-manganese battery life expectancy
Charge cycles are not the main factor affecting the service life of the lithium-manganese battery. The battery does not have a memory-effect. Generally, a loss of capacity of 4% per year can be assumed. Ageing is accelerated if the battery is exposed to high temperatures for long periods and if it is stored fully charged for long periods. Therefore, the battery can be used in very hot conditions, but should be removed from the sun and stored in a cool place when not used. If it is stored for a longer period of time, its charge status should be about 50%. If these instructions are followed, your battery will have a life expectancy of some 6-10 years. Integrated battery specifications: The batteries of the Travel motors have a capacity of 300 Wh (Travel 503) and 400 Wh (Travel 1003). The batteries are rated 10 Ah @ 29.6 V (Travel 503) and 13 Ah @ 29.6 V (Travel 1003). Charging the Travel battery from solar and from the on-board power supply: The battery can be solar charged during use. It comes with a charge connector that accepts the CIGS solar charger on page 20 or other solar chargers with a voltage between 24 V and 60 V and a charging current of 4 Amps max. To charge the battery from an on-board power supply, you will need an inverter that converts the on-board voltage to a value between 100 and 240 V (standard power outlet voltage, country- specific voltages may vary). The charger provided in the supply package connects to the inverter. High-effi ciency inverters are available on the market at very affordable prices. Watertightness: All motor components are watertight, protected against complete immersion. Safety: The motor shuts off when the magnetic key on the remote throttle control is removed. Therefore, for safety reasons, the magnetic key should be attached to the wrist or the life vest.ailable on the market. They come in a waterproof travel pack and, hence, are unique with regard to their transportability. With their dimensions of 310 x 320 x 450 mm, they can easily be stowed away on board or at home.
