Updated Firmware
Iridium have released new and updated Firmware for the 9555. Whilst there are new features that may be of benifit, it is worth noting that you upgrade the firmware at your own risk. If you decide that the it is of benefit to upgrade the firmware, please follow Iridium's instructions closely.
New Firmware Features
The new firmware released in June 2010 includes some improvements which may be of significant benefit to Iridium Satellite users. This includes the ability to directly interface with the following operating systems: Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, as well as Mac Version 10.4 or later.
The new support for more operating systems should mean that it is easier to send and receive e-mails and transfer files (although not recommended on a satellite phone as it could be costly).
The firmware also allows the Iridium user to send and receive much longer text (SMS) messages of up to 1,000 characters whereas previously, the limit was 160 characters.
