As some of you may know, the Gadget Show returned to channel 5 last night (Monday 2nd August) for its first episode of the 14th series. What makes the 14 series special is they are reviewing some of the products we take pride in selling... Torqeedo Electric Outboards!
On Monday 9th August at 8pm on 5 episode 2 will be aired and one of the featured products will be the Torqeedo Ultralight 402 - an exceptional Electric Outboard made for Kayaks.
The Ultralight is the only motor designed specifically for canoes and kayaks of all types. To mount the motor onto the kayak all you do is attach the mounting ball by means of four bolts. This is the only part of the Ultralight that is permanently fixed to the kayak. All the rest of the system is simply attached in around five minutes when you wish to use it.
The system comprises the motor, remote throttle with display, and Lithium Manganese battery. In the battery is a GPS receiver. The purpose of this is to show on the throttle display a continuous real time remaining range figure. This figure can be in either miles or kilometres. The whole system is fully waterproof so if you capsize no problem. There are two safety cut-outs on the system. If the kayak capsizes the motor will automatically cut out. There is also a magnetic kill chord which attaches to the throttle should you fall out.
The Ultralight is a great device for extending the range of your paddling. It’s great to be able to paddle from a to b. But what if the tide turns or the wind is against you (or your b was simply too far from your a?). Simple. Turn on the Ultralight and it will get you home. The motor delivers a max speed of some 9.0 km/h and a range of some 20 km at slow speed. The 402 has a total weight of 7 kg including the battery.
