In the Kayak part of the Great Outdoors challenge on Episode 1. During the first challenge of the series, Suzi was using a Torqeedo Ultralight 402 on a Kayak. To watch the full clip of the Boat Race including the boat preparation, please watch this video below: The Torqeedo didn't win the challenge but only lost by 5 meters! It was also attached to a catamaran that was much larger than Jason's boat. Ortis went for a catamaran that included the Cruise 4.0R attached to two Torqeedo Power's in series to give the motor the 48 volts it requires. - The Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 only requires 24 volts. It was also attached to 2 very large solar panels which took two men to lift each one, therefore adding a lot of extra weight. Our verdict: The Torqeedo electric outboards are a great addition to marine craft offering excellent efficiency and high speeds whilst being environmentally friendly. When Ortis slammed the throttle forward, he "liked" the speed. The Torqeedo Cruise 4.0R was a great addition to the solar powered catamaran "Look at the front coming up eh! That's speed man!" The Cruise 4.0R is a 10Hp electric outboard that is the most powerful electric outboard from Torqeedo. It benefits from remote steering and a throttle with integrated GPS receiver offering accurate speed, distance remaining and efficiency information. If you are interested in finding out any more information about Torqeedo or the Cruise 4.0R, please call us on +44 (0) 1493 669966 - we have some excellent technical support. Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 To Feature on Episode 4 Of The Gadget Show http://www.g-comm.co.uk/blog/view/torqeedo-cruise-4-0-to-feature-on-episode-4-of-the-gadget-show.html Torqeedo is fortunate enough to be featured on The Gadget Show on Monday 23rd August 2010, for the second time! The first feature was a brief review of the Ultralight 402 which demonstrated how much better the outboard for Kayaks performed than the Minn Kota alternative. This next episode shows him explicitly asking for Torqeedo (he used the Minn Kota last time) Cruise 4.0 for his solar powered boat. For a sneak preview of the other products that will be covered, watch the video below. On Tuesday 24th August 2010 we will give you a review of the product and provide feedback from The Gadget Show team. Check back soon.

About the Cruise 4.0

The Cruise 4.0 has an unbeatable thrust force of up to 10 horse power. The motor has a remote throttle and remote steering making this extremely efficient outboard much better. The motor features a GPS receiver built into the throttle so you can accurately measure the range, speed and distance remaining on the battery supply you have. ]]>

Torqeedo Ultralight - The Gadget Show Verdict http://www.g-comm.co.uk/blog/view/torqeedo-ultralight-the-gadget-show-verdict.html Torqeedo Ultralight 402 Electric Outboard for kayaks was used by Suzi Perry during the Great Outdoors Challenge. For those of you that missed it, please see a clip of the event here (The Ultralight is covered after 3mins and 45seconds): Suzi competed against Ortis who was using an Ocean Kayak Torque Angler. This was a kayak that allowed for the Minn Kota outboard to be dropped into the kayak and be used very quickly. Our verdict on the outboards is this: The Minn Kota motor was slower but as it was an integral part of the kayak itself it meant that you could be kayaking sooner. The Ultralight was faster and could be installed to just about any kayak available. This meant for existing kayak owners that they wouldn't need to purchase a new kayak. The Ultralight also comes with an extremely efficient waterproof battery. The motor delivers a max speed of some 9.0 km/h and a range of some 20 km at slow speed. The good news is that G Comm has these very good kayak outboards from Torqeedo in stock and if you mention our blog, you will get a free G Comm gas filled life jacket. Perfect for going out on the Kayak. In case you wanted to know who won, Suzi won parts 1 and 2 of the challenge and overall Ortis won part 3. As the parts followed on from one another, Ortis won the overall challenge. ]]> Tue, 10 Aug 2010 09:23:47 GMT http://www.g-comm.co.uk/blog/view/torqeedo-ultralight-the-gadget-show-verdict.html Torqeedo Ultralight On The Gadget Show http://www.g-comm.co.uk/blog/view/torqeedo-ultralight-on-the-gadget-show.html nd August) for its first episode of the 14th series. What makes the 14 series special is they are reviewing some of the products we take pride in selling... Torqeedo Electric Outboards! On Monday 9th August at 8pm on 5 episode 2 will be aired and one of the featured products will be the Torqeedo Ultralight 402 - an exceptional Electric Outboard made for Kayaks. The Ultralight is the only motor designed specifically for canoes and kayaks of all types. To mount the motor onto the kayak all you do is attach the mounting ball by means of four bolts. This is the only part of the Ultralight that is permanently fixed to the kayak. All the rest of the system is simply attached in around five minutes when you wish to use it. The system comprises the motor, remote throttle with display, and Lithium Manganese battery. In the battery is a GPS receiver. The purpose of this is to show on the throttle display a continuous real time remaining range figure. This figure can be in either miles or kilometres. The whole system is fully waterproof so if you capsize no problem. There are two safety cut-outs on the system. If the kayak capsizes the motor will automatically cut out. There is also a magnetic kill chord which attaches to the throttle should you fall out. The Ultralight is a great device for extending the range of your paddling. It’s great to be able to paddle from a to b. But what if the tide turns or the wind is against you (or your b was simply too far from your a?). Simple. Turn on the Ultralight and it will get you home. The motor delivers a max speed of some 9.0 km/h and a range of some 20 km at slow speed. The 402 has a total weight of 7 kg including the battery.

The 26,000-mile journey travelling the world commenced on July 18th and will eventually cover 28 countries, taking 9 months to complete. The main purpose of the challenge is to raise a significant amount of money for three charities - Macmillan Cancer Support, The Fire Fighters Charity and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Follow That Fire Engine is dedicated to the memory of Garth Moore, who passed away on 18th July 2009 at the age of 63, after a brave battle with lung cancer. Garth was a Fire Fighter and dedicated his life to fighting fires and saving the lives of others, of the course of his 33 years in service. Garth's son, Steve is the expedition leader. "This challenge is something my father and I spoke about and planned during his last few months with us," said Steve. "To raise money for these three charities so close to my family's heart would be a fantastic tribute to my father's memory, and help support others in a similar situation." Follow That Fire Engine has had a lot of support from companies including G COMM:
  • Prometheus Medical - donating over £20,000 of training and equipment to the journey.
  • Global Link - providing critical support throughout the journey at country borders and ocean crossings.
  • Asset Co - provided skills and expertise to prepare the fire engine for its epic journey.
  • G COMM - provided satellite phones (Iridium 9555) to allow global communication.
100% of money raised will go to three charities through the FOLLOW THAT FIRE ENGINE FOUNDATION. Shipping, fuel and living expenses will all be funded by the crewmembers. Follow That Fire Engine has had a tremendous amount of support from the public and some very well known celebrities including Ewan McGregor who also travelled around the world to raise money for charity. Ewan's fundraising was a 19,000 mile expedition around the world on a motor bike for a TV documentary Long Way Round.
